Here’s Life Africa teams go to great lengths to share the Gospel. Many of the villages they travel to do not have paved roads, so our teams drive through cattle trails, empty fields, mountain hiking paths, and dried up river beds. Sometimes, however, those river beds are not completely dried up. Massive rains and flash floods can cause dangerous situations.
In Malawi, one of our teams lead by Joseph Ziba found themselves in such a situation. They were driving to a remote village to share the Gospel and show the “JESUS Film,” but the way to the village became more and more muddy. As they were struggling forward, the car slipped off the path and into even deeper mud. The men jumped out of the car, wading through the mud and trying to maneuver the vehicle out of the deep mud and back onto the path- but to no avail. They were stuck.
With no food, no blankets, no emergency services, and nocturnal predators coming out soon, they got back in the car. The sun was setting, and there was no hope to get the car out until morning. Joseph and his team slept in the car overnight, not knowing what the next day would hold.
The next morning, Joseph and his team were greeted by a group of people from the village where they had intended to take the Gospel, as they were on their way to the fields. The team jumped out of the car again, wading through the mud side by side with those from the village. They all pushed, pulled, slipped, and by 11:00am they eventually wrenched the car free from the muddy throes. Redson, the team’s associate leader, took the opportunity to share the Gospel with those who helped free them and their car, and one man accepted Christ right there in the mud.
Rather than going back home after the harrowing ordeal, Joseph and his team pressed on toward the village they had been trying to reach. This time they made it the whole way, and they were able to show the “JESUS Film”. Still covered in mud from the ordeal, they shared the good news of Jesus. Many villagers put their faith in Jesus that night.
Praise God that he steps into the mud with us and frees us from even the most gripping of sin. Please continue to pray for our HLA teams as they travel through dangerous terrain and weather to bring the Good News to people across East Africa.
